If you are looking for a sandwich that is hearty and delicious, look no further! This sandwich is the answer. It's loaded with ham, salami, turkey, pepperonis and lots of veggies too. It is so flavorful and has great texture from the soft and crusty Italian bread, the salty meats and crunchy vegetables. A taste sensation in every bite!
- 1 lg. Italian sub roll
- 1/3 lb. sliced deli ham
- ½ lb. turkey breast
- ¼ lb. Genoa salami
- ¼ lb. deli style pepperonis
- ¼ lb. sliced provolone cheese (or Swiss cheese)
- 1 c. spinach or leaf lettuce
- ¼ c. thinly sliced onion (I used a white onion)
- 2 T. banana peppers, chopped
- 2 T. black olives
- 1 T. Italian dressing
- 1 T. balsamic vinegar (or red wine vinegar)
- 1 T. grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 T. spicy brown mustard
- 2 med. tomatoes, sliced thick and sprinkled with salt
- Pepper, to taste
Cut your Italian sub roll in half lengthwise. Scoop out some of the bread from the top half of the loaf. This will give you more room for the toppings and helps keep the sandwich from falling apart.
Spread the spicy brown mustard onto the bottom half of the sub roll. Now, layer on the meats and the cheese slices. Layer on the banana peppers, onions and tomato peppers. Now lay on the spinach and black olives. Drizzle the vegetables with the vinegar, Italian dressing and Parmesan. Don’t be stingy with the vinegar or Italian dressing. Put them on generously.
Fold the two halves together and press them together. Cut the sandwich in two and wrap tightly with butcher paper to keep the sandwich intact and keeps the sandwich from getting soggy.
If you can wait, let the sandwich sit for
about 15-30 minutes because as it sits, the flavors meld together even more and
it makes it more flavorful. Serve with
some homemade potato chips or some potato salad and enjoy!
