I love making up my own spice blends. I make up many different spice blends including, Greek Spice Blend, Cajun seasoning, an Indian spice mix and even a Fajita seasoning mix. Making up your own seasoning blends allows you to save money and tweak the blends to suit your tastes and the tastes of your family members. I will never buy pre-packaged seasoning blends again. Today I am teaching you how to make up a Mexican seasoning blend. It is a multi-purpose dry seasoning that you can use to add a bit of Mexican flair to just about everything!
NOTE: Mexican seasoning blend is NOT the same as taco seasoning. The difference lies in the composition of the spices and differences in key ingredients.
· 1 T. chili powder
· 1 ½ tsp. cumin
· 1 ½ tsp. dried parsley
· 1 tsp. dried oregano
· 1 tsp. paprika (regular or smoked)
· ½ tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
· ½ tsp. onion powder
· ½ tsp. garlic powder
· ½ tsp. salt
· ½ tsp. black pepper
· Pinch of cinnamon
Mix the ingredients together in a small bowl. When they are mixed well, put the blend into a small canning jar with a lid. Can be stored in the pantry for up to a year.
Use it on tacos, burritos, enchiladas, burgers, soups, baked potatoes, or even to spice up a stew.
