I love homemade hot rolls. I would have them with every single meal if I could and if you want, you can too because these rolls only take 30 minutes (from start to finish) to make. Isn’t that amazing?! They turn out wonderfully each and every time and are so soft too.
- 3-3 ½ c. whole wheat flour
- 1 1/8 c. warm water (get water as the hottest water that you’d use to wash your face
- 1/3 c. vegetable oil (I used canola)
- ¼ c. sugar
- 1 lg. egg
- 2 T. active dry yeast
- ½ tsp. salt
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
In a large stand mixer bowl, mix together the water, oil, sugar and yeast. Mix just enough to combine; then allow the mixture to rest for 7-10 minutes. After it has rested, it should be frothy. Using a dough hook, mix 2 cups of the flour, egg and the salt until combined. Then add in the rest of the flour a half cup at a time until the dough has formed and is no longer sticky.
Coat your hands with vegetable oil and shape the dough into 12 equal sized balls and then place the balls onto a lightly greased baking tray or cookie sheet. Allow the hot roll balls to rest and rise for 10-12 minutes.
Bake for 10 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and then brush on melted butter onto the top of each one and then enjoy.
Makes 1 dozen and each hot roll has about 30 grams of carbs.
Some of my other bread recipes you would enjoy include: Homemade Hamburger Buns, Easy Italian Flatbread, or even Whole Wheat Bread that is cooked in your crock pot!
