This old fashioned butter cake is my all-time favorite cake.
It is rich, moist, fluffy and buttery and pairs well with any frosting but I
prefer to frost it with my homemade chocolate frosting. It’s just perfect. Made from scratch with ingredients most
people have on hand at all times. Try it
and fall in love with it too.
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 ¼ c. sugar
- ¾ c. milk
- 1 c. butter, softened
- 4 lg. eggs
- 1 T. vanilla
- 1 T. baking powder
- ½ tsp. salt
- ½ tsp. baking soda
Preheat your oven to
350 degrees.
Oil or butter a 9”x13”
cake pan. Set the cake pan aside.
In a large mixing bowl, sift together your dry
ingredients. Many times I just add in
the dry ingredients but for this cake, I do sift the ingredients. It makes a difference. Sifting the flour aerates it and produces a
lighter cake.
Now, stir in the milk, butter and
vanilla. Turn on your mixer and beat for
2 1/2 -3 minutes. This is another
important step. Now add in the eggs and
beat 1 ½ more minutes.
Pour the batter into your pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until an inserted
toothpick comes out clean. Remove the
cake from the oven and allow to cool 15 minutes before frosting.
