Crostini is an Italian word that literally means “little toasts”. A crostini is super easy to make from the comfort of your own home and costs a lot less than buying them from a grocery store, import store, or bakery. Making them at home makes sense because they are so versatile too.
- 1 baguette, cut into diagonal ½” slices
- ¼ c. extra-virgin olive oil or butter
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 2 T. grated Parmesan cheese, optional
- 1 T. parsley, optional
- Salt & pepper, to taste
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
Brush each slice of your baguette with the olive oil and place the slices onto a single layer of a baking sheet. Sprinkle the top side with salt, pepper and the Parmesan cheese. Bake for about 6-8 minutes or until the crostini is lightly toasted. Remove from the oven and immediately rub each slice with the garlic. Do not omit this step. It is a game changer and you will NOT regret it. The taste is amazing. Serve and enjoy!
Makes about 20 slices and each slice has about 7 carbs.
These are perfect on their own as an appetizer or late night snack. They also pair well with many of my recipes including: Cream of Turkey and Wild Rice Soup, Guacamole, Marinated Cheese & Olives, or with some Homemade Rotel Dip.
