How to Make Hibiscus Tea & the Benefits of Drinking It

My family and I all love iced tea.  We drink it throughout the year and one of my favorite kind of iced tea is Hibiscus Iced Tea.  It is a super fragrant and delicious herbal tea that tastes as wonderful as it looks.

·   1 c. dried Hibiscus flowers

·   1 c. sugar, optional

·   1 T. lemon or lime juice, optional

In a saucepan, put 4 cups of water on to the stove and bring to a boil.  Once the water begins to boil, turn the stove to off and place the Hibiscus into the hot water and allow the petals to steep for 20 minutes.  Strain the tea into a gallon jar.  Add in your sugar and lemon juice and fill the container up with cold water, stir well and refrigerate.  Serve over ice and enjoy.

Not only does Hibiscus tea taste delicious but there are several benefits to drinking it too.  Hibiscus tea is really high in Vitamin C and is full of antioxidants.  In African countries, people use it to lower body temperature, treat sore throats and for heart disease.  In Iran, it is used to treat high blood pressure. Many studies also suggest that Hibiscus tea may benefit the live by increasing drug-detoxifying enzymes and reducing liver damage and fatty liver.
