Forget using the name brand or store bought dry onion soup mix and make this homemade version instead. Unlike the name brand stuff that contains gluten in the form of wheat or barley added to it, our homemade version is gluten free.
Such an awesome recipe that replaces something you normally would have to buy and now you can make it and have it on hand whenever you should need it. Also, when you make food from scratch, you almost always save money and the food is always better for you when you use real ingredients as much as you can!
Homemade Dry Onion Soup Mix
1/4 c. dehydrated chopped onion
2 T. beef bouillon granules
1/4 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. parsley flakes
1/8 tsp. celery seed
1/8 tsp. paprika
1/8 tsp. pepper
Place all the ingredients into a bowl and stir well. Store in a small baggie or small sealed jar. This recipe can be used as a substitute for one envelope of dry onion soup mix.
To make this into soup, bring 3 1/2 cups of homemade chicken stock or beef broth to a boil in a medium saucepan. Whisk in the soup mix, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 5 minutes.
You can use water in place of stock or broth but I like the depth of flavor that comes from using them instead of water.
The prepared soup is 4 servings and has 4 1/2 grams of carbs per serving.
This turned out great when I used it in my Creamy Pork Chops that I cooked in the crock pot recently.
You can double this recipe and store it in a pint sized jar. If you double the recipe, use 1/4 cup + 1/8 cup of mix to equal one envelope of store bought.

Would you happen to have a recipe for a dry ranch mix?
ReplyDeleteYes, I do! I'll post it later this week. Thanks for asking!
