Our son Ronny

Our youngest son is named Ronny.  Ronny was born 7 1/2 years ago with a series of heart conditions.  Ronny was life flighted shortly after he was born and the doctors did not expect him to make it.  As soon as the helicopter lifted off taking him to a larger city and hospital, people began to pray.  By the time the helicopter reached Tulsa, Ronny had stabilized.  The nurse on the chopper with Ronny said it was amazing.  One minute Ronny was fighting for his life and the next minute he stabilized and rested peacefully.

Ronny was only in NICU for a few days before he was released.  Ronny still suffers from Pulmonary Stenosis and ASD.  They say Ronny will require open heart surgery soon so please pray for Ronny.

As I said before, we are believers and believe in the power of prayer.  For many years we have prayed that God would make Ronny strong enough to withstand anything thrown at him.  Well, God answered in a BIG way.  :-)  Ronny is a BIG boy.  Seriously, he is 7 1/2 years old and is 4'7" tall.  He is projected to be just over 7 feet tall.  He is the height and weight of a 12 year old (and the appetite).

He wears a size 6 1/2 MEN'S shoe.  Men's small/medium t-shirts.  I guess you get the idea.  We always joke that maybe we prayed a little too hard.  (Just kidding, all prayer is wonderful).  Now the issue is that Ronny has heart conditions and a 7 year old child heart that is trying to maintain a 12 year old size body.  New issues but I believe God has a reason for everything.

Pray for Ronny and share with me your stories.  Do you have a 7 year old?  How tall is he?

  1. i will definitely keep Ronny in prayer. I know how scary this all can be. My dd had different issues but the fear is till the same. we have been thru surgery twice. She is totally healed now and that will be the way it is for you. God took this situation and used it to be glorified and I believe the same thing for Ronny.

  3. We will pray for Ronny. Does he have growth hormone condition or is he just projected to grow that tall normally? Is there a way to slow his growth or is that not an option because of his heart condition? He is a handsome boy!

  4. we will keep Ronny in our prayers. Is there a growth condition in play here or do the Dis. say he will grow that tall normally? Is there a way to slow or stop his growth or does his heart problems prohibit that? He is a handsome boy and has an engaging smile!

  5. Josheli,
Thank you for the comments and prayers. As far as we know, he does not have a growth hormone condition. Fact is, he has never been tested for something like this so who knows. We haven't discussed slowing his growth either. Normally, they just say we need to wait and see how things are progressing at his next appointment.

  6. Hi Melody,
My name is Trudy and I found your blog from your post on Frugal Days, Substainable Ways.
As soon as I read that post I thought "Yeah,I really like her blog I am going to look around and then sign up for emails for sure". Then in the right hand column I immediately saw the title "Our son Ronny". I thought I am not going to read about her son....I want to check out all the other interesting stuff on her blog, yet the little voice in my head told me to read about Ronny....and I am glad I did.
I am a Christian, homeschooling, homesteading, heart mom. My son Jake is 12 1/2 years old and was born with Tetralogy of Fallot and pulmonary branch stenosis but a couple of other small things. He had his first open heart surgery when he was six months old and then we went every 6 months till he was 10 1/2 years old to find out when his pulmonary valve would be replaced and more work would be done on his pulmonary arteries. That surgery was 2 years ago. He is currently doing fantastic! All of Jake's life God has taken awesome care of him. We have always told Jake that it might have shocked us that he was born with 7 heart defects...after all we had seven sonograms, but it didn't surprise God. God made Jake just exactly the way he wanted him to be and that Jake having heart defects is part his God's plan for Jake and our families life. He is seriously the last kid in a line up you would think has had two heart surgeries. Do you know when Ronny's surgery will be? Is this his first heart surgery? What will they do during the surgery? I would love to be support to you in anyway I can be long distance from you. I live in Southern Az btw. I will send you a fb friends request. Hope you have an awesome day.

  7. Trudy, what a blessing you are to me. I know why you were compelled to read this post, God sent you! Isn't he wonderful. I really appreciate you writing me and supporting me. They want to do the balloon thing on Ronny first to open up the valve some. Ronny is so tall and big that everything makes them nervous. Them being nervous really makes me a wreck. I know God is in control though. I should find out more next month. Last appt. they said he would need open heart surgery in the near future. It is great hearing your story. Gives me some peace and reassurance!

    1. Thank you for coming to my blog and for your prayers. It means a lot to me. I have had a few miscarriages and understand no matter how long you were pregnant or how long God allowed you to keep your child, the pain is real.

  11. I'll keep him in my prayers!!! My younger brother in law Gabriel (who is also 7) has heart issues too, so I know how tough it can be for a family to go through. Gabriel's no bigger than a minute, but his personality makes up for his small size lol.
