Hewing--Part 2

My oldest son, Bub, loves to work outside and enjoys making things.  He is all about doing things the "old fashioned" way and hates using power tools.  He enjoys it and is quite good at it.  We recently shared Part One of a video that he made on "hewing lumber".   Here is part 2 of the video.
I think you will find it quite enjoyable and learn a lot from him.

    Enjoy it!

Homemade "TV" Dinners

Today I am going to share with you another one of my frugal tips on what to do with your leftovers.  I often do freezer meals and do them in a large cake pan.  Our family does not eat like it used to and often, we may have over a half of a cake pan leftover.  Sure, we may grab a bit for a late night snack or eat it for lunch the next day but that is it.  Instead of wasting it, I put it in a divided container with some vegetables and freeze it for a homemade "TV" type dinner.

This works out great.  If you have one or two pieces of chicken left-over or just a bit of meatloaf, put it in the tray, add a side dish and freeze.  Now if you ever need it, there are nutritional, single-sized meals that just need to be microwaved.  So much cheaper and better than the TV dinners you can buy and there is no waste.  Another idea is pack one in your husband's lunch instead of a sandwich!

How to make your own Pizza at Home

DIY, frugal living, homemade pizza, how to make pizza dough, how to make pizza sauce, pizza dough, pizza recipe

Part of our weekly menu at our house is having pizza every Friday night.  We do not order out, we make it together from scratch.  Figured some of you may like to try out our recipe and make it a weekly tradition at your home too so here you go:

Pizza Crust

 3 1/3 c. flour
1 1/2 c. warm water
1 pkg. yeast
2 T. olive oil
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. sugar

In a large bowl, dissolve yeast, sugar, and 1/4 c. of the warm water.  Let it process and activate for 10 minutes.  Next stir in the rest of the water, the salt, and the oil.  Stir.  Then add in 2 1/2 c. of the flour.  Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead.  Add rest of the flour as needed.

Dough before rising

Spray a bowl with cooking spray and place dough in a warm area to rise and cover it with a dish towel.  After 25 minutes, punch down the dough and form it into a tight ball.  Leave it alone for 10 minutes.  Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.  Roll out the dough to desired thickness.  You can make one pizza for a nice thick crust or divide it into 2 equal sizes and roll out for two thinner crusts.

Rolled out dough in the pan.  It isn't pretty but it tastes great!

Top with pizza sauce (recipe follows) and your favorite toppings.  Bake for 17 minutes then remove and enjoy!

Deep in concentration on his work!

As you can tell by the pictures, my husband and our 14 year old son built a new pen and coop for the young chicks who were ready to be moved out. We built the 2nd pen/coop for two reasons. First because we want to keep the chicks isolated from our chickens so they can get to know each other and not injure the little ones and secondly, we will want a coop for our layers and one for the broilers. To see these guys when they were a little younger and still living in our home, click here Our new chicks.
