I love making this homemade chocolate syrup for my kids and my kids are very grateful to have it. It truly is the best homemade chocolate syrup recipe you can find. Not only does it taste delicious but it is also made without high fructose corn syrup and is so much better than store bought. It takes just a few minutes to make, requires just a few ingredients and turns out so rich and flavorful!
- 1 ½ c. sugar
- 1 c. cocoa powder
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/8 tsp. salt
In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder and salt. Whisk in 1 ½ cups of water and heat up over medium-low heat. Stir constantly. Cook until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture becomes silky smooth. This could take 7-8 minutes.
Once the syrup is smooth, remove from stove, stir in the vanilla and allow it to cool slightly and then pour into a mason jar. After about 30 minutes, it should be cool enough for you to place a lid on the jar and place it in your refrigerator. As the syrup cools, it will also thicken. After about 2-3 hours in the refrigerator, it will be ready to use and will remain good for up to 14 days.
This goes so good over a scoop of homemade ice cream.
Drizzle it over a warm brownie.
The kids love this syrup over homemade waffles.
Drizzle the syrup over a piece of cake in place of frosting.
