Bible Verses Top 10 List

Bible, Holy bible, John 3:16, Bible Top 10, Favorite bible verses, Top 10 list, Christian blog
Brandon reading his Bible.

So, I was talking to a friend the other day about praying and the Bible.  I always assumed that everyone had the same Bible verses that were like their “top 10”.  You know, the top 10 Bible verses you have memorized.  Anyway, after discussing this with others, it seems most people (at least that I can find) have broadly different verses that they find most important.
I guess most important is not the right word.  All words in the Bible are important but I guess I mean what verses speak to each individual.  Everyone had John 3:16 (For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.) as their number one pick or at least in their list.
What I want to know is what verses are on your list?  Sure you may not have them listed out or have ever thought about it but I bet if someone asked you to name the most relevant, or you favorite verses, you would know.  So, please, share with me and my readers.  What verses would be on your top 10?  Got more, then what would be on your top 20, 30, 40, 50….(you get the idea!).

My Top Picks:

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

Matthew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you.

Matthew 6:33
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.  In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ Jesus who strengthens me.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

John 14:6
Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift from God.

The Beatitudes:  Matthew 5:3-10
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness'sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The Lord's Prayer:  Matthew 6:9-13
Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive our debts as we forgive our debtors.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.  Amen.

1 Corinthians 13:4-13
Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails.  But where there are prophesies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.  For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.  When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child.  When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.  Now we see but a poor reflection in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face.  Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.  And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.

Psalm 23
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want.  He maketh me to lie down in green pastures, He leadeth me beside the still waters, He restoreth my soul.  He guides me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.  Though I walk through the shadow of valley of death, I shall not fear, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.  You prepareth a table before me in the presence of mine enemies.  You annointeth my head with oil; my cup runneth over.  Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  1. What a wonderful photo of your son reading his Bible. I have so many favorite verses. One of them is Phil 4:13- "I can do all things through Him who strengthens me." Another is Isaiah 41:10- "Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you,Surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." Hope you are having a great day. Many blessings, Lisa

  3. Hi Lisa,
As a homeschooling mom of two daughters now graduated, I remember those sweet times of Bible reading. One year we memorized the Ten Commandments together. I learned to list the books of the Bible with my daughters, too. So many times I thought I was homeschooling them, and in reality, God was using them to homeschool me! God bless you as you rear your children in faith. Lori

  5. So glad to see you sharing on B&BB again. I like your humble and thoughtful posts. Lots of the verses you mentioned would be in my “must know” list—verses that are good for understanding our faith. The 23rd Psalm is special to me because I memorized it as a child and my mom and I said it together when she was dying. I once memorized the book of Philippians because I need to remind myself of being joyful in all circumstances.
I’m writing this on a train from Budapest, Hungary to Zagreb, Croatia. I don’t have internet, but I opened up your blog post before the trip so I could read it while traveling. And I’ll paste my comment into a comment box when we arrive. So I’m reading your blog and thinking of you across the globe! I’m praying you have a blessed week.

  6. There are so many scriptures that come to mind. It is comforting to have the Word hidden in our hearts. I have been helped and strengthened so often by the verses I needed for the circumstance I'm in. It truly is the 'Living' Word.
I think my favorite verses change according to what is meaningful in my life at the moment. Ps. 23 has been very meaningful all my life.
May the Good Shepherd bless you this week.

  7. This is definitely a good list- it would be hard for me to pick my top ten! Or top anything- I think it changes too much, and I am always discovering new verses that speak profoundly to me! I love how the Holy Spirit will guide us to verses in the Word that speak to us where we are at and help us to be strengthened and serve the Lord. Thank you for linking up to Workin' It Mondays- such a blessing :)

  11. There are so many verses that speak to me. What I have found is that different verses touch me at different times in my life. I love Zephaniah 3:17 because it talks of having God's favor after a time of stumbling...and that is such a blessing to me! Just to remember that our God loves us and when we come to Him in total submission with repentance, He will forgive us!

"For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (Zeph. 3:17)

  14. Great list. I created a top 52 list for my daughter one year and eventually made a spiral year-long calendar of "top" verses for her to use as a morning perpetual calendar. Thanks for putting these together. I would love to have you link this up to Titus 2 Tuesday next week on Cornerstone Confessions.

  15. I thought I left a comment when I visited during the week but I guess I didn't. Must be getting old-er. ;o) I love your list of verses. Our children have almost all of Matthew 5 done, which includes the Beatitudes. Another favorite of ours is Philippians 2:4. Thank you for a great list to memorize and for sharing at WJIM.

  17. I have many "tens". It depends on my mood, my need, my focus. Many are in Psalms, the Prophets, Revelation, John... etc. After all these years[46] since coming to the Lord, it has depended on what life was like at the moment. The Lord lays so many different ones on me.

One I will use forever was given to me by the man who led me to the Lord: Phil. 2:13 .. It is God Who works in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure.

It will fit in my life forever.

  20. It would be difficult to pick a top ten (often I'll comment on posts that include specific verses and remark that the verse is one of my favorites.) I believe a lot of it has to do with whatever season we are in. However, many of the verse you mentioned are also among my favorites. A few others that come to mind are Genesis 50:20; Galatians 5:1, Philippians 4:6-7, and Acts 4:12.

The theme of your blog (simple living) intrigues me. In this fast paced world, I believe it is good to simplify and slow down. I'll be back to read more.

    Blessings,
