How to Make Powdered Sugar

It is pretty easy to make powdered sugar.  I try to keep powdered sugar on hand but there are times I am ready to make a recipe and am out of it.  I live way out in the country and running into town is a whole ordeal so when I am out of powdered sugar, I just mix up some of my own and now you can too. All it takes are 2 ingredients and you probably have both of those in your home pantry!

  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 T. cornstarch

Put the sugar and the cornstarch into your blender.  Put the lid on the blender and turn it on and grind up the two of them until they are very fine.  It can take 4-5 minutes, depending upon your blender.  You now have powdered sugar.

Store the powdered sugar in a small canning jar with an airtight lid until you are ready to use it.

Makes about 2 cups.

I use powdered sugar in many recipes including:  on my Homemade Doughnuts, Homemade Powdered Chocolate creamer, and my Old-Fashioned Potato Candy.
