My Homemade Tangy BBQ Sauce

My family likes things homemade.  I feel sorry for my son's future wife.  He doesn't like fast food hardly at all and prepares everything made from scratch.  :-)  When it comes to BBQ sauce, my menfolk like the sauce to be tangy and not super sweet.  Here is my recipe that really brings out the flavor of meat.

Tangy BBQ Sauce

              2 c. ketchup                                 1/2 c. water
             1/2 c. Apple cider vinegar             1 c. brown sugar
             1 tsp. pepper                                 2. T. chopped onion
             1 T. lemon juice                             1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt                                      1/2 tsp. garlic

Place all the ingredients into a pot and stir.  Heat on low heat and let simmer for at least 20 minutes.  Serve over beef, chicken or pork.  It's all good!  :-)  We love to use it on our Pulled Pork sandwiches, Dr. Pepper BBQ shredded chicken, or on Tangy BBQ Lil Smokies or on my Country Style Ribs in the Crock Pot.

  2. I make a very similar recipe for barbecue sauce and it is very tasty. Do you can yours or just make it as needed? I do buy the bought version when I am busy, even though the taste is inferior. Patricia

    1. Patricia, I have canned it in the past but lately I have just been making up a batch and refrigerating it. We generally can use it through 3-4 big meals.
