Farm Life

Today I just want to tell you all a bit about our farm. It is 40 acres of farmland and woods. We only own a small part of the 40 acres but we have access to it all.  We have 3 wells and a creek that flows year round. We have a pond and a water shed is within a short distance for some great fishing. We have plenty of wildlife roaming our property like deer, raccoon, rabbit, opossum, squirrel, etc.
We have 2 gardens that we grow all kinds of fresh vegetables and fruit. We also have a peach tree, persimmon tree, crab apple trees, walnut trees, and so forth. We have 3 hogs and 18 chickens. We have layers and broilers.
I make homemade bread 3-4 times a week and do a lot of canning. We can vegetables, meat, jams, jellies, etc. We try to live off the land as much as possible. We are always seeking new ways to stretch a dollar. We love eating good food and coming up with new recipes and meals. In fact, just this week, I cooked a meal that filled us up that cost us less than 50 cents a person.
What do you do where you live? Any comments for future blogs? Want to be a guest blogger?

  2. A watershed looks just like a lake but it is actually rain run off that forms there. Streams and rain run off flows to the watershed. Sometimes people call it catchment. Good question. If you want to know more about watersheds, here is a link to give you a better explanation:
